International law firm Berwin Leighton Paisner selects QlikView Business Discovery to gain instant financial insights.
Informance is pleased to announce that international law firm Berwin Leighton Paisner (BLP) is to roll out the QlikView Business Discovery platform to its 1,400 plus employees worldwide. The software will be used to streamline financial decisions, improve internal processes and boost employee productivity and profitability.
BLP delivers clear, pragmatic legal advice to its clients who span more than 20 industry sectors. The firm required a business intelligence solution that would automate and streamline financial reporting. BLP also needed to cater to the firm’s commercial objectives, including providing meaningful, multi-dimensional insight for core financial practices from client billing to time management. As a global organisation, the platform had to facilitate remote access from any web browser on a range of compatible devices, providing staff with up to the minute information regardless of time or location.
BLP selected QlikView in recognition of its intuitive user interface and data visualisation capabilities which allow users to quickly access information and facilitate client requests. The appeal of having data in a single in-memory location that was available for a variety of consumer devices also went hand-in-hand with the organisation’s own roadmap to enable greater mobile working on devices such as tablets.
Mark Tothill, Financial Director for Berwin, Leighton Paisner says: “We needed a sophisticated and modern software tool that was capable of instantaneously providing real-time information for our global business. QlikView will enable everyone in the firm to have seamless visibility of their own performance, empowering them to monitor their own productivity and become more efficient. Within the first hours of training, it was clear just how much of an impact this technology could have on our firm’s development and success.”
Barry Talbot, Managing Director for Informance says: “We are very excited to be working with a multi-award winning firm like Berwin Leighton Paisner and seeing first-hand how they become accustomed to what QlikView can do for them. BLP’s experience will be similar to any firm wanting to use QlikView as their primary business discovery tool and because of this, we anticipate that the number of law firms now selecting QlikView is set to grow considerably”.

Leading personal injury solicitors selects QlikView to manage its business
Fentons Solicitors has been providing legal services for more than 80 years and today is one of the largest claimant personal injury firms in the UK handling a high number of high-quantum cases. Fentons recently selected QlikView from leading legal IT specialist Informance as it needed a new business intelligence solution that would manage its business effectively. The QlikView Business Discovery platform will provide Fentons with a number of visually dynamic reports that can be customised and analysed by the users in order to give them the data they need to make better, more informed decisions.
Prior to selecting QlikView, Fentons was using a number of different packages to prepare reports for its different business areas and as well as being time-consuming the reports didn’t allow the user to drill down and interrogate them. Therefore, Fentons identified that it needed a new reporting solution that was much more visual for user analysis and one that offered speed and accuracy as well as providing flexibility at a user level in order to pinpoint certain information. Fentons evaluated a number of reporting products on the market and found all of them to be impressive, but selected QlikView from Informance as QlikView offered the best cost-effective solution for the firm and was quick to install, user-friendly and would enable Fentons to own and develop the installation.
Paul Medcalfe, IT Manager for Fentons says: “The speed of the QlikView implementation was demonstrated by the fact that we had a working version of QlikView running with our live data within a day”. Internally we are now in a position to share information more easily across all levels of staff which creates more of a buy-in as it allows staff to concentrate on their core activities, knowing that any issues will be flagged up”.
QlikView has been rolled out to Fenton’s partners and heads of departments where it is being used to analyse information for staff to make informed business decisions on areas including: accounts, marketing, compliance, human resources and services areas such as information technology. With QlikView, Fentons is able to use the reports it provides to also ensure that the firm can demonstrate to outside bodies that it is managing its business effectively.
In the future, Fentons is considering rolling out QlikView’s personalised legal fee-earner dashboard displays to its fee-earners so that they can analyse and measure their performance.
Martin Loftus, Equity Partner for Fentons says: “I have been impressed with the ease and speed with which our IT staff have been able to configure the reports and roll them out to our heads of department. As a law firm it is important to us that we retain ownership of the information we are reporting on. QlikView has enabled us to do this whilst at the same time improving the degree to which we can analyse information across our various departments and the ways in which this information can be presented.”
Paul Medcalfe concludes: “Informance not only supplied us with the QlikView application but delivered an excellent training programme that has proved invaluable to our developers. He continues: “QlikView is a cost effective and flexible business analysis tool that ensures we can continue to improve and analyse the effectiveness of our processes and projects and make informed decisions about our business.”
